Why and How to Use a Hair Serum

Harnessing the power of healthy oils for your scalp and hair is what we’re all about. If you’ve been with us for a while, you know that gorgeous, nutrient-rich, cold-pressed oils run throughout our line of hair products, from our Hair Mask to our Leave-In Conditioner. So what makes the new Hair Serum different? If you’re already taking care of your hair using our oil-based products, how do you know if you should add this one into your ritual?

Ahead, we’re talking everything you need to know about our hair serum and how to use it.

What Is Hair Serum?

Generally speaking, a hair serum is a (usually silicone-based) liquid product used for styling or conditioning, coating the hair’s surface to target different concerns, like split ends or frizz. Unlike traditional conditioners, which help lock in hydration and replenish moisture to damp hair, a serum is a lightweight leave-in product that can offer last-minute silkiness to damp or dry strands.

How is Najeau Hair Serum Different?

So, what’s the special sauce in our serum? We think nature has already given us the best hair ingredients in the forms of botanicals. As in all of our hair products, cold-pressed plant oils are the magic in this velvety serum. We chose a combination of precious oils formulated to absorb quickly into your strands to add softness and shine without leaving behind a greasy residue.

Marula oil, argan oil, sea buckthorn oil, and our Lebanese olive oil are some of the earth’s most precious ointments, and since you’re not washing out this product, every drop of the lightweight blend is staying in your hair to nourish strands with an impressive array of fatty acids and antioxidants.

What is the difference between a Leave-in Conditiomer and a Hair Serum?

Leave-in conditioner and hair serum serve different purposes for hair care. Leave-in conditioner is for the inside of the hair; typically used to add moisture, detangle, and provide manageability to hair after washing. It's often cream-based and is left in the hair without rinsing. Hair serum is  for the outside of the hair; it's focused on styling and protecting the hair. It's usually a silicone-based product that adds shine, reduces frizz, and can protect against heat and environmental damage. Serums are applied to the hair's surface, often after styling.

Should I Be Using a Hair Serum?

Some people like to use a hair serum routinely to make their strands softer and silkier or keep split ends sealed in between trims, while others prefer to use it only for occasions when they’re going out and want some extra shine.

If you’ve noticed that your hair is looking dull, you can use the serum to impart a shiny gloss without the greasiness, or you can use it to tame flyaways throughout the day. With a beautiful profile of omega-3’s, 6’s, 7’s, and 9’s from sea buckthorn oil, this serum can be used to strengthen strands for long, strong, shiny locks.

Even if you have fine strands our hair serum is formulated to be feather-light so that it won’t weigh down your hair. But particularly if your hair is coarse, or tends to be frizzy, you’re really going to benefit from this extra step in your routine.

How to Use Najeau Hair Serum

You can use the Hair Serum on damp or dry hair and throughout the day as needed:

  • As a styling serum: Apply to damp hair for extra protection and control
  • As a finishing serum: Smooth flyaways, seal split ends, and add extra shine after styling.
  • For touch-ups: After activity, humidity, or a busy day, apply for extra shine and control.

A little goes a long way, so start with less and add more if needed. Apply 1-2 pumps of the serum to your hands and smooth throughout hair from mid-lengths to tips.

The Benefits of an Airless Pump

Protection from Contamination: Airless pumps don't allow air to enter the container, reducing the risk of contamination from bacteria and other pollutants. This is particularly beneficial for products applied to the hair.

Extended Shelf Life: By preventing air exposure, these pumps can help extend the shelf life of the serum. Air can cause certain ingredients to oxidize and degrade, so keeping air out ensures the product remains effective for longer.

Precise Dispensing: Airless pumps allow for more controlled and consistent dispensing of the product. You get the same amount with each pump, which is useful for serums where dosage is important.

Reduced Waste: As these pumps are designed to push all the product upwards, there's less wastage compared to traditional pump or squeeze bottles. You can use almost all the product inside.

Consistency in Product Quality: Since the serum is less exposed to air, the consistency and effectiveness of the product remain stable over time.

Portability and Convenience: Airless pump bottles are typically leak-proof and more durable, making them convenient for travel and daily use without the risk of spillage.

These factors combined make airless pumps an efficient, hygienic, and effective choice for dispensing hair serums.

So How is Najeau Hair Serum Different?

Made with the best botanical oils and plant nutrition to nourish your hair, our Hair Serum is the cherry on top, that final step for making hair softer, silkier, and shinier before or after styling. We take care with each product that it’s something that will truly enhance your hair, and we’re so excited to finally share our serum with you.

Warmly,

Nina
